Foster, at a meeting of the Wellington branch, of the New Zealand Teachers’ Institute He went on to say that at present the teaching profession was in a blind alley, and those who entered this alley Werb very poorly paid. Mr B. Keen said the tramwaymen had “gone slow,” and were going to gain an increase in pay. Could teachers gain an increase by going slow? Miss P Myers said she would be prepared to strike. If the schools were closed for a year the people would realise the position. Mr Foster said he had almost seen himself as organising secretary of a teachers’ trades 'union. Mr A_ McKenzie (chairman) said until teachers got more money there would be the greatest difficulty in keeping the ranks full.
