NEW ZEALAND.
Parliament is to meet in Cotol&cr and authorise another war loan, the dimensions of which have yet to be fixed. The session may last until the end of November, but our “Ignorant Parliament” will not do much —because it is incompetent. We want ships, and to get' themTwe will have to build them; we require that our water power be exploited and electrical energy supplied everywhere; the ‘ignorant Parliament’ can see no necessity for that; the returned soldiers have been dumped down and one in a hundred may get a farm at fancy prices that will cripple him for the term of his natural life; the ‘ignorant Parliament’ does not know of any better way of treating our returned men; the railway system of the country has become a nuisance to the public instead of a convenience, and the public services have been cut down to a degree that seriously embarasses everyone and with thousands of men available the Government cannot find men to run the services; the public works of the country have stopped until peace comes; there may not be any lasting peace for 50 years—in fact ,peace, as we knew it in twenty years preceding 1914, has gone for an indefinite period; we ought to push on public works of utility, but the ‘ignorant Parliament’ allows itself to be bamboozled by a relic of ancient politics; the scramble for war profits goes on merrily, and the people get poorer and poorer The M.P.’s will get their cheques in time for Christmas —nothing else matters.—“ Reason.”
