LICENSING PERSECUTION
HEAVY FINES AT NELSON. NELSON, September 26. Charges arising out of breaches of the licensing laws were dealt with by ■Mr E. G. Levvey, SM., to-day. W. S. Horrocks, licensee of the Tasman Hotel, was charged with supplying liquor before the lawful hours of opening, with exposing liquor before hours, with scling liquor before hours and with permitting treating. The case rested on the evidence of a constable, supported by certain admissions, subsequently denied in the witness-box, made by another defendant, who was charged with treating. Horrocks was convicted on all the charges, and was fined £4O for treating. Horrocks was fined £4O for treating £lO for supplying and £1 each for exposing and selling liquor out of hours. On the final charge his licence was endorsed. Bass, the barman, was convicted of permitting treating and was fined £lO. One man found on the premises was fined £7 10s, and another £5. Security for appeal was lodged in all cases.
