MEN RESUMING- WORK. Received 9.5 a # m. LONDON, September 27 There is a fairly general resumption of work in Wales. A meeting of Great Eastern and London and North Western drivers and firemen decided to resume, but London traffic is still disorganised. WERE THE MEN MISLED? INQUIRY TO BE HELD. Received 11.45 a.m. LONDON, Sept 27. It is stated that an enquiry is to be held regarding the allegations that the South Wales’ strike was engineered by pacifists, who duped the men by false statements, a'nd prevented Mr. Thomas from personally reaching the strikers; and that they also used coded messages.
HERTLING'S CONFESSION. NEW YORK, Sept 26. The New York “Times’ ” Washing,.i correspondent says: The concession of the seriousness of the internal situation in Germany was the only part of Hertling’s speech which Interested the United States’ officials. The speech is considered to be meant for domestic consumption. NO WEAKENING OF NATIONAL DETERMINATION. TO WIN THE WAR. Received 9.5 a.m. LOGON ,Sept 27. The- chairman at the annual general meeting of the National Liberal Federation said there was no necessity for a general election under present circumstances. There had been no weakening of national determination to win the war. We say to the Government; “Get on with" your job.” Afterwards the Liberal Party wall present a programme adapted to the new conditions.
