MACEDONIAN CAMPAIGN.
BRITISH'GREEK ATTACK. VALUABLE GROUND GAINED. LONDON, Sept 21. A British Salonika official states: The British and Greeks at 5 o’clock on the morning of the 18th attacked westward and eastward of Lake Doiran. They captured westward of the lake a trench at Hauattem, southward of Doiran town, advancing our line about 2000 yards. Heavy Bulgarian counter attacks regained part of the ground captured on the left, but the positions in the centre and right were maintained. Eastward of the lake, after a night advance, we carried the enemy’s outpost line. Upwards of 700 prisoners were counted. The Greeks fought with great gallantry. A wireless German official states: We repulsed repeated strong counter attacks against Gouzeaucourt and on both sides of Epehy, also attacks between Omigno rivulet and the Somme.
SERBIANS CROSS THE CERNA. LONDON, Sept 21. A French Eastern communique states: Despite lively resistance, our offensive between the Cerna and the Vardar progressed. On the 19th Allied cavalry reached the region of Polosko. Serbians reached the left bank of the Cerna in the region of Dunye, and progressed towards Konopiste, across most difficult ground separating Belashnitza from Beshava. The Frahco-Greeks carried the villages of Tussino and Monte, at the foot of Dzena and captured a total of ninety guns.
The Anglo-Greek offensive in the region of Doiran is progressing despite violent counter attacks. A Serbian communique states; The advance continues. We have passed the line Blatet-Tchemeske-Belashnit-za The enemy has evacuate!! the Cerna river, we crossing to the left bank. The Bulgarians are burning stores in camps. Prisoners ~ exceed 5000. 'An additional ten guns have been captured, mostly heavies, also quantities of material. Several villages have been captured.
SERBIAN ADVANCE GATHERING MOMENTUM. 'LONDON, Sept 21. The Serbian advance gathers momentum. The Bulgars are retreating to the Vardar, which is twenty-five miles distant. The Serbian advance threatens the enemy’s main railway communications along the Vardar. Crown Prince Alexander commands the Serbians, with Marshal Michitch as chief of staff. Marshal Michitch comanded the Serbians in the great victory over the 'Austrians at Rudney in 1314.
PARIS, Sept 21. The Allies on the Macedonian front have retaken 375 square miles of territory in four days, despite the fact that the country is mountainous and roadless. It 'will be difficult for enemy forces to regain cohesion during the retreat. Serbian official: Our advance north one one day was more than fifteen kilometres. The infantry passed the line of Krinevo —Fratogue—Dragojel —Polochko. Cavalry is north of this line, and more than ten villages were liberated in one day.
