RED CROSS NOTES.
As illustrating the vadied and com-! prchonsive use to which Red Cross funds are applied the following statement for one month (May) is highly edifying:—The Red 'Cross Executive has received a statement of expenditure on Red Cross work in England for May, 191 S. This includes personal gifts for men in hospital amounting to £1957 16s; unit gifts, £273 15s 4d; medical equipment, £137 16; extra gifts £525 4s 4d; extra comforts, £37 9s sd; newspapers for hospitals £147 10s; materials for fancy work, £I3S 15s 7d: limbless workshops, £B6 3s; goods for men returning to Hew Zealand £279 11s 6d; extra ,unit £lO7 2s; sundries, £4 9s 2d_ The hospitality committee has expended £927 18s 3d on entertainments and refreshments for men in hospitals.. The Art Union Secretary reports a very satisfactory result among the farming community. Books of tickets were sent to every farmer in the dis* trict and very few have returned them. This shows that the generosity and patriotism of our agriculturalists has not waned.
On Labour Day the members of the Otaihapo Club will 'be in charge of the proceedings, and a very diverting time is assured to young and old, male and female, rich and poor; only the unpatriotic the selfish, and the mean will be uneatered for.
