The Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company has decided tp make an advance of 1/5 per lb of butter fat for the September supply. . The alien property custodian in the United States is organising a corporation which will arrange for the sale of 140 German-owned concerns of a total value of £10.000,000.
A slight fall of snow took place in town at 2 o’clock this afternoon.
On the front page of this issue is a new advertisement from Mr B. S. Timbs, butcher.
The United States Government has advanced £4,000,000 to the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for extension of plant to rush the steel output.
At the annual meeting of the Otaihape Freezing yVorks shareholders this morning, the’., retiring directors, H. D. Bennett, A. F. Gibbs, and R. Lnburn were re-elected; Messrs Clark and Menzies, and Mr. C. Masters were re-elected auditors.
The New Zealand war correspondent reports that in the recent fighting the New Zealanders captured 2400 prisoners, 28 guns, 450 machine guns, two tanks, several mortars, and a large quantity of ammunition and engineering stores.
The annual general meeting of shareholders in the Otaihape Meat and Produce Company Ltd. was held in the supper room of the Town Hall, when it was reported that the last year’s business was a record for the Company.
It is proposed to erect wobl storage at the Taihape Freezing Works, the capital to be raised by the issue of £5 perference shares. Over one hundred shares were taken up before the annual meeting of shareholders, held this morning, *closed.
The local Te Ante and Wanganui College Boys (past and present) are endeavouring to organise a football team to play a local fifteen on the Recreation Ground on Saturday next. The names of players of both teams will appearnn Friday’s paper.
The Naval Adviser announces that an enemy mine has been washed ashore on the west coast of the North Island, about four miles south of Cape Maria Van Diemen. Another has been found drifting off the. coast in the vicinity .of Cape Brett. Both mines have been secured and the necessary 'steps taken to destroy them, .
