WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1918 PEACE SQUEALS AND THREATS.

It seems that the Huns must have a drive of some kind on hand, when they can on longer rally sufficient strength and courage for a fight then they start a peace drive, and a peace drive it is they have now launched along the -whole territory from the Baltic, through Berlin and Vienna to the frontier of Italy. 'All want peace; not a man in Germany, Austria, Bulgaria or Turkey, from Kaiser down to the meanest serf, ever wanted war; they fought only to save themselves from the marauding, slave-hunting British, and for no other purpose. It is a distinctly bad, stupid world which either from ignorant fear or crafty voracity arrayed all its peoples on the side or Britain just to rob and plunder the poor, innocent Hun. While documentary evidence proves beyond all doubt that Russian Boisheviki and Germans may be regarded as synonymous terms; while Germans are wallowing in the blood of not only Russians, but are killing all other peoples opposed to them in Russia, including British officials; arresting and imprisoning diplomats and their staffs; killing, I butchering by thousands, innocent I people, till the streets of the Russian capital run with blood and rivers are thick with floating corpses. Killing singly is too slow, they tie priests and bourgeoise together in bundles and pitch them into the freezing rivers until the shores of the Baltic Sea are lined with corruption from hundreds of thousands of decaying human bodies which have been carried into the sea by the- various rivers which empty therein. While all this Is being perpetrated every minute of the day, every day of the week and every week of the month, those impossible Huns have the criminal audacity to ten Britain, France and Italy they never wanted war; they abhor the destruction of life that war involves; the booty obtainable is not commensurate, with the cost in money and life. While over the eastern frontiers of Germany the Kaiser and his military gang are continuing to wade knee deep in the blood of a people who are not now at w r ax with Germany, they have the shameless impudence to hold out the olive branch to people they are at war with over their western frontier. If Germany loves peace and was forced into defending her territory why is frightfulness of the most sickening character, and the most bloodthirsty ruthlessness being indulged in and encouraged to the utmost limits of scientific barbarity against a helpless people? The Huns do not want war, they want butchery of" semi-helpless victims; they, by a campaign of lying and corruption, made the greatest human sham Dies the world has experience of amongst helpless Russians, and they don’t want peace over their eastern frontier. They hoped in 1914, when they, like common thieves and murderers, rushed upon the innocent Belgians, to indulge in similar orgies of butchery and nameless crimes, hoped that over their western borders they would bring about the butchery stage, giving play for the murderous villainy and orgies of frightfulness in which the soul of the Hun delights They failed; they met the brave real lovers of peace who could, and would, fight for peace against German murderous, inhuman instincts and proclivities, and now the Kaiser wants peace over his western frontier; he sees the enemy he would have butchered or enslaved commencing to swarm on to German territory, carrying that retribution German acts have abundantly merited, and he rushes up a campaign of peace. Perhaps he is right in saying Germany never wanted war; it was systematised orgies of murder and butchery Germany wanted, and now Mr. Kaiser cannot find his natural element on the West front he wants peace. Before Britain and her Allies listen to the word peace uttered by a

German, let the Kaiser stop Ms campaign of human extinction in Russia; if the spilling of human blood is revolting to him why does he mercilessly persist in it with his right hanc reaching over the cast, while holding the olive branch with his left hand to those who are bringing punishment for his misdeeds from the west? Terrorism of the most frenzied character with one hand, and offers of peace with the other; over one he has the mastery, of the other he is in mortal fear. It is waste of time to discuss the dissembling, sickly peace drivel which has commenced to gush from conveniently discovered peace springs in both Germany and Austria; they are not the real thing; they are spurious, and until there is something in the peace way having a truer ring we need not trouble ourselves about German peace offers ,We may rest fully assured that America, Britain, and France will bring about peace at the very earliest possible moment. General Pershing is taking the very nearest short cut to peace somewhere in the vicinity of Metz, on German territory. The Allies want no war, they have a surfeit of it, but they have discovered the only road to peace and they are inexorably pursuing it. German peace campaigns would prolong war conditions for years, but the Allies’ road to peace across Germany will result in a real lasting peace being reached in a few months, perhaps this year.
