A man called up for his medical examination was very concerned'' as to his liability of getting passed into a grade which would mean military service. So he thought his best plan ■was to get the military officer on one side, which he did. and told him fie wias very anxious to get into Grade 3, and promised l him £lO if be could manage it for him. The bargain was accepted, and after bis examination be asked tbe officer bow he bad fared, which brought forth tbe reply that ayter much difficulty be had succeeded in getting him passed' Grade 3. Tbe man at once banded over tbe money, expressing to tbe officer bis grateful thanks, and as be took tbe money tbe latter said: — “Yes, it was a difficult thing getting you passed Grade 3 \ as a matter of fact, if it hadn’t been for me they would have turned you down altogether.”
