A MAN DROWNED. WELLINGTON this clay. David Sullivan, aged seventeen, wal'* drowned at Happy Valley yesterday, while swimming a horse in the surf. A strong wind and high tide made the sea rough. The man lost ills balance and being unable to swim, clung to the horse’s head, so both man and animal were drowned. Sullivan’s body has not been recovered. SAFE BURGLARIES IN AUCKLAND' THREE ARRESTS MADE. AUCKLAND, this day. James Davern and John McLelland, two men alleged to be implicated in some of the numerous burglaries, were arrested by, the police in a boarding house in Wellesley Street on Sunday morning. Both were asleep and were handcuffed before they could offer resistance, and the police found a loaded revolver under Davern’s pillow, and several plugs of gelignite under his bed, while a loaded revolver was on the pillow alongside Mc'Lelland’s head and more gelignite under McLelland’s mattress. A third arrest was made last night of a young mfii named Charles McCormick, believed to be implicated in breaking and entering premises in Queen Street. He was arrested near his home in Grey Lynn. A CHILD KILLED BY A KICK FROM A HORSE. AUCKLAND, this day. Kitchener Hale, aged three years, whose parents reside in Dominion Road, was kicked on the head by a horse in the street, and died in the hospital.
