RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.

An extroardinary general meeting of the Taihape and- District Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last week. There were 27 members present and Sergeant-Major Forrest was elected to the chair. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £BO 9s 5d was read and adopted.

The resignation of Mr W. H. Macey Avas received and accepted with regret.

In accordance Avith the rules of the Association the old committee and officers resigned.

The members then proceeded to the election of officers and committee to carry on the work of the Association, resulting as follows: —President, Mr Neely; A’ice-prcsidont, Mr Harris; Committee, Messrs. Lcnihan, Campbell, Wright son. Williams, and Murrell.

i Considerable discusssion took place with, regard to the erection of a clubroom it eventually being decided that the proposal be held over until a later date, and then discussed at a general meeting of the Association.

A special vote of thanks was passed to the ladies who had so generously assisted at the various functions held by the returned soldiers in the and particularly to those who helped at the last ball. The members spoke gratefully and appreciatively -of the ungrudging efforts of the ladies on their behalf.

Mr Martin MeLaughlan was elected secretary After the general business had been disposed of, a social committee was formed, and various matters in connection with the forthcoming returned soldiers ’ ball were debated. It was decided to hold the ball on October 9th, and arrangements were put i n hand for the successful carrying out of the function, which promised to eclipse all the previous efforts of the returned men. The meeting then adjourned with a vote of thanks to the chair.
