WELLINGTON CENTRAL SEAT.
J MR O'REGAN'S NAME MENTIONED I . Owing to the death of the sitting 'memer, the late Mr. Robert Fletcher, the Wellington. Central seat becomes vacant. In the course few weeks an election must take place to fill the vacancy. It is the duty of the Registrar, so soon as the death is registered, to communicate with Mr Speaker, and Mr. Speaker will therehupon cause to be published in the Gazette an announcement that the seat is vacant. He will also issue a warrant to the Clerk of Writs, ordering an election, and the Clerk of Writs then has to fulfil Ms statutory duty of issuing a writ for the election, which wrii" must be returnable in a period of not more than 28 days. f As Mr. Fletcher was a member of the Liberal Party, under the te'rfhs of the agreement made between the party leaders at the time the National Government was formed, Sir Joseph Ward should have the right of choosing who shall be the National Government candidate in the ejection. It Is understood that no choice has yet been made. It is commonly reported that Mr. P. O'Regan will stand for the seat, but it is not suggested that he will be the National Government candidate.
