o OFFICIAL REPORT. (Special from New Zealand Correspondent.) CAIRO, August 31. The report of operations from July, 1918 to July Ist. —The Aucklano Mounted Rifles relived the Wellington Mounted Rifles, occupying a short sector in the Jordan Valley. Patrolling in front of the defences we are in daily touch with enemy patrols. Wor>.ing parties from the Brigade are constantly employed in draining stagnant water and other measures against mosquitoes. On July 22 —23 the enemy shelled our bivouac area, but the casualties were very light. On July 14 the enemy heavily shelled this sector and attacked from Abu Tellul and Tellerishe before daylight. The attack was pressed against the Light Horse Briagde on the right of the New Zea-, land Brigade. Enemy aeroplanes as-' sisted in the atack. Wellington Mounted Rifles were pushed forward to at-, tack the enemy flank and drove in and captured 61 prisoners. The Canterhury \Mounted Rifles idea Ted the\ country a mile to the westward under heavy shell fire. The enemy was driven off with heavy losses, losing 400 prisoners. The Brigade withdrew to its bivouac in the evening and continued the previous routine. On JuTy 19 the Brigade moved to the camp m the back area, and on July 27th* went out of the valley to the rest camp..
