KAISER'S FLIGHTS OF FANCY.
How the Gorman Emperor pictures the future of Germany is recorded by his favourite war correspondent the faithful Karl Eosner of the Lokel Ancoigcr. One evening, after a busy day surveying operations from a chain of posts, the Emperor, chatting with his entourage, spoke with glowing enthusasm. says Eosner, of the time when icrees, now let loose on. destruction, would again return to useful pursuits. He spoke of the great advance made in science. The Emperor forecasted that all of Germany's needs in nitrates would be covered by extracting nitrates from the air. The Emperor then described the 1 ‘'marvellous possibilities" of the new gas motors and how present waste waters from metal works would serve to fertilise the fields so that deserts would blossom like the rose, and make arid regions self-supporting as regards food. ‘•'With daring flights of fancy," continues Eosner, "the Emperor predicted the harnessing of the rays of the sun and the recovery of ocean’s innermost treasures.’ ’ This will come to pass, the Emperor assured his hearers, once Germany secures the "strong peace" for which she is working.
