TAKEN PRISONERS.

' ’] i \ ‘ NEW ZEALANDERS INTERNED. PRANCE, August 21. It will be remembered that in the fighting about Meteren some of our non-commissioned officers and men from an entrenching battalion, who went bravely into the fight were cut off, and it was supposed at the time that many were made prisoners. This, was afterwards confirmed. I have now seen a letter from Hansen, one of the prisoners, -written tothe officer commanding the entrenching group on April, 20, and received, here on August 6. Hansen refers to. their misfortune in being taken prisoners of war, and says, though he cannot say in a letter how it all happened, he assures his late commander that they stuck it out as long as possible. He forwards a roll of the prisonercd men, as he is anxious that letters and parcels should be forwarded to them, especially parcels. At the time of waiting he did not know what their address would be. The commandant replied, telling the boys to be of good cheer, and not to worry, as all knew they had fought well. The nominal roll forwarded is as follows:

H. R. Hansen, J. Bennett, W. B. Qucnnell, D. W. Clark, E. B. Gold, J. Henderson, J. J. Lowry, C. W. K. Hicks, S. J. McAllen, G. Hendricksen, J. C. M. Laren, W. Me William, G. O’Brien, M.
