NEW PLYMOUTH, this day At the Supreme Court Robert Perrett, farmer, was found guilty under the Military Service Act of assisting his son to evade 'military service. He was fined £SO, in default six months' im-, prisonment. CHINESE AFFAIRS LONDON, August IS. The Daily News' Pekin correspondent states that a mandate signed by the President, promulgating the issue of the gold and currency notes, is' criticised by bankers as impracticable, and infringing on the currency reform. The announcement that the old notes will be'used :as the basis' of Chinese gold currency, is described by bankers as bunkum.
