THE KING’S “CLEAN OUT.”

At the outset many men in the King’s service were released for voluntary enlistment. The Sandringham company of Territorials- —upwards of 100 —were called to the colours and fought nobly at Suvla Bay in gave instructions that every unmarried man of military age at Buckingham. Palace, Windsor Castle, Balmoral and Sandringham should report for service. Of 554 who joined up 55 have been killed, 75 wounded, and nine repanted vate rwcaa a# Buckingham Palace hangs a “Wsa- fieowise Poll.” Many of the released men have been difficult to replace, particularly the clerks, whoso correspondence demanded a special knowledge. All of military age are done, their places being filled by women. The King’s act has been voluntary, as the Ministry of National Service did not propose to ask for any more men. from the greatly depleted staffs. i
