GERMANY’S TROUBLES.
FOUNDING NEW KINGDOMS. REVERSES ON SOMME AND MARNE. i PRODUCE DEEP EMOTION, Received 9.15 a.m, • LONDON, August 15. The Daily Chronicle’s Amsterdam correspondent states that Berlin political circles anticipate the Polish decision will not favour Austria, but 'recognise a so-called independent kingdom, though it will be really under German authority. The Conference is likely to settle the boundaries of Poland, Lithuania, and Finland, and choose their rulers. The Pan-Ger-mans oppose such schemes as' the new ! found kingdoms may develop disloyalty in the future. The only solution is annexation. However, Russia is the worst problem. The news which has reached Berlin paints the picture daily in the most sombre colours, and the alarm of political circles increases, Meanwhile the German Press ur- ; ges the Government to declare its I war aims. The “Hamburger Nachrichten” declares Germany’s reverses on the Marne and Somme have produced deep emotion, and advises Hertling to support the League of Nations, This demand seems strange, but the Westfalische Zeitung, which is equally Imperialistic, supports the demand, explaining it must be coupled with the independence of Ireland, Egypt, and other portions of the British Empire. THREE PRUSSIAN REGIMENTS MUTINY. BERNE, August 14. The Socialist newspaper “Volkhrecht” states that there is widespread war-weariness in Germany, and at the front. The Forty-first, Fortythird, . and ’Forty-eighth East Prussian regimeits"refused’to obey orders to attack, and were mercilessly shot down, including' tbe officers.
