TAIHAPE AND DISTRICT PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Taihape and District Patriotic Society" was held in the Town Hall Supperroom, on Monday, August 12th. His Worship the Mayor occupied the chair, and there were fifteen members present. Apologies for non-attendance were received from S?T3srs. Evans, Wakeman, de Lorec, and James, and leave of absence granted. Report of the Executive Committee ■was read by the chairman who moved Its adoption, seconded by Mr Bray and carried. Report of Returned Soldiers’ subcommittee was read by Mr Powell who moved its adoption, seconded by Mr Neaglo and carried. Tho above mentioned reports showed that cash grants and grants for clothig had been made to six returned soldiers; in two eases, loans, have been. ! granted, and two applications for financial assistance are hold over pending result of inquiries. One application for a loan and another for a cash grant have been declined.

War risk on the life insurance policy of a soldier on active service has been paid.

Assistance with the following cases have been rendered with satisfactory results. One application for artifical limb, one for passport to and payment of pension to Australia, one for admission to Rotorua Hospital for medical treatment.

Assistance has also been given with three applications to the Financial Assistance Board for financial assistance in one case a grant has been made; final decision in the others is awaited.

Employment has been found for three returned soldiers.

Acting on behalf of another society relief has been obtained for the widow of a soldier killed in France. Four applications for financial assistance have been received and forwarded to the Patriotic Societies entitled to deal with them; in one case the amount asked for was granted, one declined, and two await decisions. The Executive Committee recommends certain amendments to the rules of the Society, and it was decided that a meeting of the members of the Society be held in the Town Hall Sup-per-room, on Thursday, 29th August. Notice has been received of the Increase in mufti allowance by the warexpenses department, a soldier on receiving his discharge will be given an, order for £5 ss, an increase on the original amount of £3 15s.
