TRAGEDY AT THE ISLANDS.
TRADERS COOKED AND EATEN. SYDNEY, August 12. An island steamer reports the murder of two white traders in one of the outlying islands of the New BVitain Group, The victims were surrounded by a horde of savages and butchered, their bodies being cooked and eaten. The natives concerned showing further s'.gns of hostilities, a punitive espedi . tlon was dispatched, and, surprised a well-armed force of natives at Ko Kopo. A desperate encounter, resulted in 60 natives being sho t and others taken prisoner. The expedition visited a second village and punished the murderers there;
