SALE OF WAR MUNITIONS. . ASTOUNDING- DISCLOSURES. Received 9.30 a.m. LONDON, August 11. Some remarkable features were disclosed in the hearing of charges against George Heyl and Jacob Stonor for dealing in war material without a permit. Mr. Bodkin, K.C., prosecuting, said the enormous correspondence seized by the police showed that Heyl and Stonor, with the co-op-eration of men in Rio Janeiro and New York, sought to dispose of huge quantities of Mausers, Hotchkiss, and Krupp guns’ explosives, even Brazilian dreadnoughts, to various Governments. The war material referred to was mostly in South America. One deal concerned half a million rifles; another showed a purchase price of £9,713,000 sterling and the sale price £10,516,000. Heyl explained to the cable censor that the firm had a prewar contract with Russia. Stoner’s pre-war name was Stein. AN IRREPRESSIBLE PAPER. FIFTEEN YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR PUBLISHING IT. BUT IT BOBS UP AGAIN. Received 9.30 a.m. AMSTERDAM, August 11. A German court-martial at Brussels sentenced to fifteen years’ imprisonment three prominent Belgians accused of participating in the publication of a secret newspaper “Libre Belgique,” which the German authorities are vainly trying to suppress for many months. The paper re-appeared the day after the sentences were announced, and a copy was secretly deposited on von Falkenhausen’s table. SPAIN AND GERMANY. ! REPUTED SPANISH ULTIMATUM. Received 11.45 a.m. LONDON, August 11. The Sunday Times states the Spanish Cabinet is virtually sending an ultimatum to Germany, demanding that the latter fully respects Spain’s neutrality. - ' (Continued on page S.)
