EXPORT OF TIMBER.

REGULATIONS WITHDRAWN. NEW ORDER TO BE ISSUED. WELLINGTON, August 8. The withdrawal of the Gazette notice published yesterday restricting the export of timber and providing for the control of the production ana use of sawn timber has been announoed by the Department of Internal Affairs. Amended regulations are to be

issued. The regulations in question provided for the appointment of an advisory committee, to be known, as the Timber Industry to assist the Minister and the Board of Trade. Power was given to the Minister to determine, from time to time, the minimum quantity of sawn timber produced in a sawmill required for use in New Zealand in any period, 1 either as a specified amount of timber or as a fractional part of the output. In fixing this quantity the Minister might take into consideration any agreement between mill-owners for the joint production of timber, and, if such an agreement was broken, the Minister was to adjust the quantities I of timber to he reserved in New ZeaI land from "the several sawmills affected. The regulations laid that every person proposing to export any timber after The commencement' of the Or der-iu-Council, must apply to the Collector of Customs for a permit to export, and must furnish, among other data, particulars as to the kind and grade of timber, and as to the 'mill where was produced. Export was to be ah lowed if, at the date of such timber as had been fixed for the period and for, all preceding periods had been disposed of,- or was available, for use, in New Zealand at a'price not exceed-, ing the maximum price, if any, fixed by the board. Further, it was provided that every person carrying on business as a saAvmiller or as an exporter of sawn tlmj her must make returns as to his busii ness as the Minister or the Board of Trade might require, while power was given to the Minister or the Board to, require any sawmiller or exporter, or any person requiring sawn timber for bis business, to funfsh returns as to his business for any period subsequent to March 31, 1915.
