AMERICAN APPRECIATION OF i LORD READING. Received 9.30 a.in. NEW YORK, August 9. The New York Times, in an editorial, emphasises the splendid work done in the United States by Lord Reading, and hopes his visit to England will be but a brief interruption to his extraordinarily useful and valuable labours. Lord Reading has shown remarkable genius for the solution of business problems, and was largely instrumental for the splendid success in the co-ordination of British and AmI erican war efforts. AMERICAN SHIPBUILDING. Received 9.30 a.m. WASHINGTON, August 9. It is .officially announced that the July launchings in American yards were 67 steel ships, 435,244 deadweight tons; 53 wooden ships, 187,000 deadweight tons; three composite 11,000 deadweight tons. In the sam» period 41 vessels of 235,052 deadweight tons were completed, whereof thirtysix are of 217,052 deadweight tons; five wooden vessels of 18,000 deadweight tons. Launchings exceed the pre-war output. . SLAVIC LEGION IN AMERICA. ORGANISING FOR BATTLE FRONT Received 10.45 a.m. WASHINGTON, August 9. The War Department announces the completeness of plans for the organisation of a Slavic Legion for the West front, comprising Czecho-Slovacs, Jugo Slavs, Lithunians, and other Slavs living in America, night.
