JAP. STEAMER WRECKED VANCOUVER, July 31. The Japanese steamer Candamann, inward bound with 100 passengers was wrecked in a fog off Cape Flattery, on the United States coast, opposite Vancouver Island. Salvage vessels are rescuing the passengers. tanker fights u-boat NEW YORK, July 31. An oil-tanker has arrived at an Atlantic port after a five-hour fight with a U-boat six hundred miles off the coast. The TJ-boat fired two hundred shots. The tanker replied, and finally escaped.
