AMUSEMENTS.
KING’S THEATRE. There is no .more popular artist in America than Miss Ethel Barrymore. She has had a brilliant stage career reaching greater heights of fame than any other American on the dramatic stage. When she transferred her efforts to the screen, this wonderful popularity followed her. In New Zealand her name perhaps is not so familar as many others., but those who have seen her work .must admit that for .ability, dramatic force and convincing naturalness, there arc none better. Particularly was this so in the powerful dramatic story, “The White Raven,” In the latest Metro wonderplay Miss Barrymore again has an opportunity for some splendid work, but in this instance the play itself—the strong fine story—is the greatest factor in its success. Practically the first patriotic film produced since America entered the war, it strikes a great note of loyalty and%'aith in the nation and its allies. The breaking down of neutrality, not only in Congress, but in the hearts and habits of the people is cleverly shown, and also the menace that America in partitpjlar has to face, the German element in her midst.
