KING'S THEATRE. The second of the Triangle sevenreel superfatures is "Because of a Woman," which will ibe shown at the King's to-nfght. The heroine is Belle Bennett, whose charm and beauty are of rare appeal in the character of the 3STew York society girl whose role is to mend the heart of a badly treated hero . The story is a fascinating one, commencing with the sacrifice of a young man who works for a mining company whose secrets leak out. To save the father of the girl he loves he accepts exile. There he has time to gather his suspicions to a head and the truth dawns upon him just as the man he knows to be guilty arrives. Tlie final working of the plot is most ingenious, and there are, hosts of surprises before the climairls reached. Belle Bennett is full of mischlel and daring as the girl who scandalises the society folk of the southern town, and Louella Maxim is' gentle and appealing as the wife of the worthless engineer whose wanton trifling causes all the misery. The sets are gorgeous, particularly the cabaret scene, and the dresses of the heroine are something to remember. SOCIAL AND DANCE TCvMORROW NIGHT. As will be seen from an advertisement in another column the Taihape Women's Working Club are holding a social and dance in the Town Hall en Wednesday, July 24th. It is not so much the fact of their holding this function that we wish to stress, as the importance of the object to whicn the money raised therefrom is to be devoted, .mimely, the provision of Christmas parcels for our soldiers on active service. We have during the last few days had a touch of winter in Taihape, but it is nothing compared to what is experienced in France at' Christmas time. Multiply our. snowfall by ten, adding thirteen inches to the thickness of our ice; pile on the mud ad infinitum, and to all the miseries these conditions engender, add the horrors of war, then we will have a faint idea of the fighting line at Christmas time. It is to relieve and ameliorate in some degree these miserable conditions the Working Club is striving by various means, of which this social and dance is one, to get funds to provide Christmas parcels. We hope their appeal will meet with the whole-hearted support of the community. Perhaps some of our. readers may not be able to attend, well, buy a ticket and look upon it as a contribution. To those who do attend it can safely be promised that they will have a good time, as no effort will he spared to make it thoroughly enjoyable. Prices of admission are 2/6 for gentlemen and Is and a basket for ladies.
