JAPANESE BATTLESHIP SUNK BY INTERNAL EXPLOSION. TOKYO, July 17. The Japanese battleship Kawachi was destroyed by an internal explosion which broke the vessel in halves and caused her to sink almost instantly. Practically the whole of her crew of 960 perished. The Kawachi, a dreadnought of 21,420 tons displacement, was completed in October, 1910. Her dimensions were: Length, 500 ft; beam, 84 ft; maximum draught, 2Sift. Her armament consisted of twelve 12in, tea 6in, eight 4.7 in and twelve 12-pcunder guns, four machine guns, and five torpedo tubes. The Kawachi carried a crw of 960. NOT A BRITISH MINE. AMSTERDAM, July 17. The chairman of the Naval Court which has been investigating the sinking of the Koningen Regentes, said the evidence proved that the vessel was torpedoed.
