Received 10.10 a.m. WASHINGTON, July 15. The Americans have driven the Germans across the Marne in the Tossoy region. The enemy penetrated five thousand yards and captured Chedy. Their line of advance has been along the Marne Valley. The Germans took Bouquiony, which is three thousand yards beyond the original trench lines, also Orcourt (not Avscourt. as cabled) and Chaumizy. The Germans eastward of Rheims attacked on a twenty-five mile front be. tween Prunay and Maison de Champagne, but were brought to a standstill in the French battle positions, where the situation seems satisfactory

At 2.35 p.m. the offensive remains held, the attacks being nearly everywhere repulsed with heaviest losses. Eastward of Rheims the front lino entanglements are covered with German corpses. There were two "evening attacks by tanks at Souain and. Primary. At the latter the wOod was captured; elsewhere attacks were repulsed. The line of resistance, one or two miles behind the front trendies, is everywhere intact. ■ The French are satisfied that Von Beulow's and Von Boeheim's armies continuing the assaults are indication 3 of a grand offensive and not a diversion is intended. Thirty divisions have beep- identified, mostly Prince Rupprecht's. There were two main attacks westward of RkelmS, one down the Marne and the other southward of Domians. The Germans threw six bridges across the Marne between Dormans and Rhuelly. A captured aeroplane map shows the main attack was down the Marne to Epernay. AN ALL DAY LONG STRUGGLE. Received 11.25 a.m. LONDON, July 16. A morning French communique states the German attack commenced about 4.30, and continued all day long on both sides of Rheims 5 with unabated violence. West of Rheims there were furious struggles in the region of Reully Court, Hiezy, and Vassy, to the south of the Marne, wheih the enemy succeeded in crossing at some points Vigorous American counter-attacks drove back to the north bank the enemy elements which reached the southern bank to West Fossoy.
