Soldiers' Day

For sometime past the Commercial Travellers' Association have been organising, in conjunction with the local Refjunied Soldiers' Association,, a function to raise funds far carrying on the work of the latter. The fruition of their efforts will be a "Soldiers' Day," which will be held on the Tainape Recreation Grounds on Thursday next, when something hovel will be provided for the public in the way of amusement. One of the most amusing events will be the "Koon Kan Hack Race," i n which some noted performers will take part, and there will be a contest between Desert Gold and Biplane, with light weights up. This event will decide once for all the rival claims of those- two noted performers to be termed the champions of the

Southern Hemisphere. A tug-of-war between the champion Maori team and Raetihi will also be on the programme. Miss May Raymond has been specially engaged for the afternoon, and will appear in ragtime ditties' and other acts, especially the latter. There will be sideshows .arid numeitms other w ; ays of spending an enjoyable afternoon. In the evening a concert and dance will be held in the Town Hall. At the conceit the various numbers will be provided by some of the best talent in the Dominion. This day's outing will be most enjoyable, besides providing funds for an organisation, that is endeavouring to do their best to look after the interests of returned soldien.
