ESCAPE FROM FEATHERSTON. WELLINGTON, this day. Five prisoners in the guard room alt Featherston Camp made a mysterious escape from there on Friday ‘evening. They had been securely locked up the previous evening, and the sergeant of the guard reported all well at 6 a.m. next day. Shortly after it was discovered the men had escaped. There was nothing to show how the prisoners broke from the guard room. No trace could be found of them. The members of the guard have been placed under arrest. , RESIDENCE DESTROYED AT MARTON, MARTON, this day. Mr. J. G. Hewitt’s fine two-storey residence, lately owned by Dr. Sherman, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday evening, including an art collection and law library. Insurances are: £1250 on building in South British; £6OO on furniture in Norwich Union. BODY OF MISSING MAN FOUND. GISBORNE, this day. The body of James Patrick McGrath, missing from Waipiro Bay, was found in the bed of a creek at Pepa. hou.
