A STEAMER’S NARROW ESCAPE,

Received 9.25 a.m,

NEW YORK, July 11.

Wireless messages received by the captain of the liner Augsweld early on Monday morning, causd him to alter his course. The liner was not caxnouflaged and was unarmed. It is believed the U-boat had warning of the steamer’s voyage with nitrtes for use in making munitions. One torpedo swished alongside the steamed narrowly missing; a second passed close astern.
