THE ENEW ZEALAND ARMY.
A FINE RECORD. AUCKLAND, July 9. In a speech at Helcnsville, to-night, Sir James Allen said New Zealand to date had sent away 95.000 soldiers. Over 22,000 had returned. Ho was hopeful that we shortly would be able to reduce the reinforcement quotas to what it was a few months ago. Sir Jas. Allen announced that he had just received a letter from General Godley, giving particulars of the honours gained by New Zealanders as follows: Victoria Crosses, five; D.S.O. 99, and Bars, five; D.C.M. 2DI, and Bars, two; Military Crosses, 307, and Bars, four; Military Medals 1195, and Bars, 29; Meritorious Service!, 35; Mentioned in Despatches 925; Recommended to the Secretary of State for War, 117. Awards to women were: Royal Red Cross (first-class), seven; second class 34. Honours awarded to New Zealanders by the Imperial authorities totalled 3045, and in addition 142 decorations had been awarded for service with the Allies, as follows: French, 46; Russian, 7; Belgian, 52; Serbian, 29; Montegrian, three.
