AMERICA'S GREAT AID

ARMY OF OVER TWO MILLIONS

WASHINGTON, July 21

Mr Baker, in a statement ,says: The American army at home and abroad consists of 160000-officers and 2,010,000 men. America has produced 1,300.000 rifles and is producing 80 aeroplanes weekly. Nearly 100 ships will be launched to-day. They represent a tonnage of 450,000. Fourteen destroyers will also be launched. American yards built 1522 vessels during the twelve months, bringing the strength of the merchant marine to more than ten million tons. .Mr Daniels, in a speech on DiCe-pendence-Day. said: When it was announced that U-boats were operating in American waters, America met the challenge by despatching the greatest number of troops that ever sailed on one day. We are to-day launching more tonnage than the U-boats have sunk since the war began. The recent raids on the American coast cost us 25,400 tons of shipping; during their stay here we built 130,000 tons. Since the war began America has lost 352,000 tons, but in the same time she has birin 2,700,000 tons. In addition to that figure, we launched to-day more than 400,000 tens. The Allies' policy will sound the death knell o? autocracy.
