TAIHAPE MOTORS LTD.

Determined to keep in advance of the times, Taihape Motors Ltd. have secured an up-to-date motor car to fill the requirements of fife Royal Mail services for which they hold the contracts The vehicle is a 40 h.p. fourcylinder touring car, specially adapted for the purpose. The car ha? seating accommodation for nine persons, with adjustable canvas curtains with celluloid windows, and can thus be converted into an open or closed vehicle according to the weather. Fitted with a coach top the car will be very convenient for the carriage of luggage without interfering with the comfort of passengers. At the rear is a perfetlj weather-proof compartment for the conveyance of mails, bread or other perishable articles. The car is comfortably upholstered in red leather and is perfectly under control, being fitted up with a foot-brake, hand-brake, and compressed air brake. The car was taken out for a trial run to Mataroa on Friday last, being driven by Mr. Speddiffg, accompanied by Messrs. Durrant, Scott, Wrightson, (directors), and Mr Boyd the firm’s foreman engineer. The vehicle proved itself eminently fitted for the purpose for which it is intnded, the 40 h.p. engine conveying a sense of pbwSr which was-wery pleasant, the steepest hills were negotiated with perfect ease, the return trip from Mataroa taking exactly nineteen minutes. Though primarily intended for mailcarrying, the car will be at the service of those wishing' fo attend races, parties, picnics, etc., and, as the manager enthusiastically declared, is capable of going to Wellington on the one side or to New Plymouth on the other. The car is also fitted with a most robust “honk,” operated by fne foot, and another of the ordinary hand variety. Undoubtedly the possession 5T a car of this description is a decided acquisition to the town.
