Loss of the Wimmera

MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER

WELLINGTON, this day.

The Acting Premier has received a message from. Mr Massey expressing deep regret at th eloss of life resulting from the wreck of the Wimmera, and sympathy with relatives and friends. The Marine Department has instructed the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Auckland to hold a preliminary enquiry regarding the Wimmera disaster. On receipt of evidence the Department will decide whether a further inquiry is necessary.

OWNERS' SUBSCRIPTION TO RELIEF FUND.

The Wellington office of the Huddart Parker Co. has been advised by cable that the directors are subscribing one thousand pounds to the relief fund for the sufferers by the ■Wlmmera disaster.
