TAIHAPE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

. 0 The monthly "meeting of the School Committe was held last night. Present: Mesdames Mawson, McCormick, Messrs. J. Champion (chair),-Burrell, Shennan, Swindells, and. Lovell. The -.visiting, committee reported having made provision : for. storm water drainage-from corner of school grounds facing JKokaka-v Street and Huia Street, and having attended to leak in roof of the Technical School

A letter "was received from the Education Board wtih regards to a school bell promised by the chairman of the B'oardj Mr. "Pirahi, stating that owing to the absence of Mr Pirani, who was on a visit to England, the matter had been deferred till his return, in the meantime the Committee is to furnish an estimate of cost.

The Education Board had no objection to displaying a chart containing the Ten Commandments on the classroom walls. The secretary is to get a price from the initiators of the movement.

A letter was received from the Collego Street School Committee, stating it was proposed to form a Manawatu ►School Committees' Association, asking for the local committee } s support and requesting it to send two delegates to a conference to be held on July 25th to discuss the formation of the Association. It was pointed out in the letter that in view of the recent agitation for educational reform there was need for a central body to apply further weight to the work already done. —The proposal was cordially supported by the Committee, and Mrs # De Latour and Mr A. J. Joblin are to be asked to represent it at the Conference.

The Headmaster reported that the attendance at the school for the past month was as follows: Primary classes, average 302 (roll 327), secondary classes, average 16, (roll 18); Winiata, average 16 (roll 18.) The procuring of sawdust and disinfectant to be used in sweeping the school was left in the hands of the secretary*

It was decided to accept Mr Cole's tender for fencing og the grass plots in the school • grounds. Mesdames McOormick and Mawson, and Mr J Champion were appointed a visiting committee for the coming month, and in their hands was left the filling up of the holes in the school entrances. 1
