A DROWNING FATALITY. MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE. AUCKLND, this day. William Perrotty, aged 20, and a man named Steel, aged about 40, were fishing in a small boat in the Rangitoto Channel last night. When getting anchorings the boat capsized and Ferrott clung to the upturned boat, but Steel stripped and swam ashore. He returned with assistance in a defence launch, but there was no trace of Ferrott or the boat. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. AUSTRALIAN CANNING INDUSTRY v COMPREHENSIVE PROPOSAL DISCUSSED. Received 9.35 a.m. • { MELBOURNE, this day. It is - stated that negotiations are progressing in the Commonwealth respecting a proposed syndicate being formed, for the establishment of a canning enterprise, to supply the Imperial Government with canned meats, the capital to be supplied by pastoralists and others interested. rA telegram from Marion states that Mr. T. A. Duncan, on behalf of the (principle wool growers of, the Hunterville district, commnific&ted to the Prime Minister yesterday the following:— “We, with many other woorgrowers in the district.desire to leave the disposal of their wool entirely In the hands of the Government, having the’utmost confidence that Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward will make ‘the best bargains possible with the Imperial authorities on their behalf.”
