RETURNED SOLDIERS’ BALL
A -well attended meeting of ladies was held last night in the Fire Brigade Hall, about fifteen being present and apologies were received from, others who expressed their willingness toassist. Mr Ncalcy, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association( w r as present, and explained to the ladies the object of the meeting. He said the returned soldiers had to face certain difficulties, and so far had not appealed to the public for support, and he hoped the canvassers -would meet with every success. Mrs MeAuliffe was voted to the chair, Mrs Dunbar was elected secretary, and those ladies present were formed into a committee with power to add. The following districts were allotted to the canvassers: Misses Bremner: Kaka Road and the Terrace; Misses Leahey and Colman: mataroa Road and Birch’s Road; Miss M_ Smith: Ellis Road; Miss Swenson: Main Street, Station Street and Bennett’s Siding; Miss Broome: Papakai Road and by-streets from Main Street to the Domain; Misses Kilkolly and E. B’ray: Carver Street to Moa Street; Miss McPhce: Winiata; Mrs Campbell: Ohutu; Messrs Dunbar and Macey the country. As the object is a worthy one it is to be hoped the people in the town and district will give their usual hearty support. The Association is in need of funds to enable them to get an office n wdiich to # hold their meetings, and this requires funds to keep up. Tim question of dealing with our boys as they return is a big oney hence the necessity of those who have already come back being organised and on a ■working footing.
