KING’S THEATRE. A relentless, implacable Wall Street magnate is the hero of “The Conqueror,” the unique Triangle drama to be shown to-night. The role is taken by Willard Mack, whose strong face and piercing eyes contrast strongly with the refined features of Wayne Madison, the society leader, played by J. Barney Sherry, The story concerns a man who fought his way up from bitter poverty to overawe society, which he hated and despised. Suffering from a sharp snub, he sets about the ruin of Madison, which, through skilful manipulation of the markets he soon accomplishes. Then he compels Madison to promise his daughter’s hand in return for mercy, and when he faces the unwilling girl he taunts her with being what she is. The ending is very far away from what might be expected, and the conclusion of the story is quite unexpected. The play is remarkable for its settings. It portrays the idle rich set of modern America, .and their manners and customs with striking vividness, and the settings are of unexampled costliness and luxury. The supporting roles are taken by Enid Markey and Louise Brownell, both of whom do work instinct with emotional power. Supporting the above is a Gaumont Graphic, Triangle comedy, and No. 3 Bairnsfathcr cartoons.
