LUDENDORFF'S STAFF.
A German writer contributes to the Berlin Lokalanzeiger a panegyric of Ludendorff's staff. He says that the staff is quite small, and adds: "As the work never gets into arrears, a small staff is preferable to a large one. The regularity and punctuality are due in part to the gifts and suitability of the selected officers, and in part to their harmonious co-operation and to the spirit which prevails. Of course, opinions are not always the same, but there is never any personal friction and the submission to decisions is absolute." The writer names seven officers. The first is Colonel von Merz, '' a quiet and far-sighted assistant of his chief, with an important rind interesting post." Lieutenant-Col-onel Wetzell is "a very clever and serious worker, full of knowledge and often to be found in his chief's room." Lieutenant-Colonel Brauer, is s'aid to have been described by Ludendorff as "the cleverest officer in the larmy." The writer praises him profusely as an extremely able and versatile officer with an extraordinary gift for organisation The other officers mentioned are Major Frarmert, Major von Bockelberg. Major von Harbou "whose unusual gifts are combined with a convincing eloquence," and finally, "the calm and solid Captain Gcyer."
