ON THE SEA.

AMERICAN TRANSPORTS THRICE ATTACKED. NEW YORK June 19. The Now York “World” says that three submarine attacks against one convoy of American transports going to Franco were frustrated, by naval vessels. A periscope appeared amidst the troopships, one ship being loaded with tri-nitro-toluol. A cruiser 600 yards away fired on the U-boat, and the naval guards on the transports also fired. It is not known if the U-boat was hit. Two days later a U-boat appeared 50 foot from one transport and a tri-nitro-toluol carrier. A destroyer quickly appeared and forced the Üboat to submerge. It dropped depth bombs, and a quantity of oil rose to the surface. The destroyer reported later that it was sure the U-boat was destroyed. When the convoy was in sight of land in European waters two U-boats appeared in the wake and fired one torpedo but missed. DestrovJ ers and naval guirds opened fire, but it is not known if the U-boats wore hit.
