THE JONAS CASE.
LONDON, June 19. • The prosecuting counsel in the Jonas case stated that correspondence that Jonas and Vernon had been supplying information concerning Vickers’ new -armament works at Sheffield to a Berlin armament firm, Vernon is the son of a naturalised German named Hahn, who was connected with Jonas’s firm until 1917* Vernon changed his name after the outbreak of wafT Mr. Muir, Prosecuting Counsel, said the police found documents showing that Jonas was corresponding with Von Gontard, of Berlin, who was connected with a German armament firm. He was also in • correspondence with Zieschang (English born, but of German parents) who was foreman of the Vickers works at Crayford, where Vickers is establishing a large plant for the manufacture of a new rifle. Vernon, in April 1913, informed Jonas that certain German works hoped to supply small arms to the British Goternment on a large scale, jjfcmas in November 1913, instructed Vemqfcitd ascertain the details of Vickers’ rule, and the plant’s capacity. This request obviously arose from Von Gontard*s letter two days earlier, requesting Jo. nas to obtain this inSonnation.
