MARRIED MEN. THE MOBILISATION RATE, WILL IT BE REDUCED? WELLINGTON, June 19 Early in July the mobilisation of Class A, married men will be complete and in August', the men with one child commence to enter camp. Those who arc now being examined medically are set down for the October drafts, while the earliest time for mobilising Class C men will be October or November. The married men have shown so excellent a standard of physical fitness that it seems as if the first two classes will provide an ample supply for training and it is nowbeing suggested by those who know the state of the camps —which, are still fairly full —.and the difficulties of securing sufficient transport for reinforcements that the mobilisation dates of the married men now under orders may be extended. From inquiries made by your correspondent it is evident that the present intention of the authorities is to call up the Class B men as originally arranged but to slacken off the mobilisation of the men with two children.
If the experience of the 1917 campaign had been repeated this season, Ncav Zealand would have had, by this time } to provide men to replace two thousand casualties. Fortunately there has not been anything like this Avastage in the Expeditionary Force, so that this factor Avill haA r e an important bearing on the mobilisation of Class C men. The first ballot selected ten thousand, but it is understood that the second ballot, a month hence will probably be for only five thousand. At this rate Class C will provide the drafts to supplement accretions from the First until the end of this year.
