THE FRENCH POSITIONS | ADVANCED. « LONDON, June 17. General Sir Douglas Haig reports: "We made a successful raid eastward of Arras, and repulsed attempted raids in the neighbourhood of Givenchy. The enemy heavily bombarded our positions north-westward of Albert for a short period last night. A French communique states: Between the Oise and the Aisne we successfully carried out local operations this morning which enabled us to extend our positions north and northwest of Hautebraze. GERMANY'S SEVERE LOSSES. ALL AVAILABLE TROOPS ORDERED BACK PROM RUSSIA. LONDON, June 18., '■ The Morning Post~states that Lu-.J dendorff has ordered Falkenhayn to hand back from Russia within a week every available soldier, thus proving! the severity of the German losses on the West front. It is estimated that thirty-five German divisions are left in Russia, of which twelve are in Ukraine. They are mostljf 'Lahdwehr and" other poor troops. At 3 o'clock this morning, a French communique stated: ' Between toe Oise and the Aisne we repulsed some enemy counter attacks north of Hautebraye, and consolidated this morning's gains. We prisonered 370 in this region, and captured 25 machine-guns and eight trench mortars.
