FOOTBALL.
o The second football match of the season will take place on Saturday, on the Recreation Ground, Taihape. The contesting teams will be a team representing the Maoris of the district and a team of Pakehas. An interesting and exciting game should result, as the Maori team is a strong one, both back and forward, and" should disposfyM)f their opponents with something to spare. The Town team, with the assistance of four prominent members of the Maori team —Takarangi, Chase, Tau, and Salmon —gave a good display on June 3rd, and such as to delight the hearts of the barrackers. Saturday's match should be as interesting. The match will be under the control ,of *Mr. A. L. Wilson, who refereed the senior matches in Palmerston North last season. The ordinary rules of the game as played in the past seasons, will be adhered to as from information obtained the amended rules as played North have not the sanction of the New Zealand Rugby Union. N. Z. WOOL CONTRACT. STATEMENT BY MR. MASSEY. EONDON, June 17; J Mr. Mas3ey states: Derails of tire Hew Zealand wool contract have been satisfactorily settled. The Imperial Government accepts shipping responsibility. Other contracts are more difficult. There is no question of squeezing producers, but the Government cannot shift existing purchases. The general outlook for Australasian prodJMEers is serious unless the war soon. It is hoped decreased submarining and higher output of tonnage -will solve the difficulties.
