'SMASH ENGLAND!" ! "Smash England!" is the prayer of prayers ;n Germany at this hour. The country is being officially urged to subscribe to the eighth war loan in order that there may be more Zeppelins and Gothas to rain bombs on Britain, and more submarines with which to cut ocf her food and transport of men and munitions to France. How the German Government is appealing to anti-British passions is depicted by a cartoon, entitled "Sub scribe for War Loan," in the front page of the "Frankfurter Zeitung." It shows a fat but frantic John Bull astride his tottering island, surrouncr-" ed by money-bags and gnawing hungrily at a bone—this to make believe that England is starving. The sky is dotted with aeroplanes and airships. Bombs are exploding on Mr. Bull ancr his gold. The island is fringed with a double line of submarines. Outside the Üboat cordon British battleships are statijned, but only to indicate their helplessness, for all around them merchantmen are sinking and burning, the victims of German torpedoes.
