THE KONINGEN KEGENTE3 TORPEDOED. SENSATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS. Received 9.5 a.m. AMSTERDAM, Jun e 8. A sensational sequel to the loss of the Koniugen Regentes has occurred. The captain and others are convinced that the ship was torpedoed. A car. penter, who was on the deck* states he saw an object approaching, and cried to a comrade, "Look at that great fish." An explosion followed. The quartermaster saw the torpedo at two hundred yards' distance approaching in a slanting direction. He couldn't possibly mistake it. Altogether five of the crew state they saw the torpedo approaching and are positive the boat was not mined. Mines are rare in that locality. SINKING OF KONINGEN REGENTES. Keceived 10.5 a.m. LONDON, June S. The 'Morning Post' 'states that the Koningen Regentes was torpedoed. The Dutch naval authorities investigated the affair, and ,are convinced that the vessel was attacked. This new German crime has produced Indignation in Holland, where it is be- ■ lieved the Germans thought the lB*!t----ish delegates were aboard the Koningen Regentes. THE U-BOAT MENACE IN AMERICA. Washington opinion is veering to the belief that the Germans intend to keep up the U-boat menace in American waters if possible, by sending relays to America. Wireless warnings of an expected attack were sent out before Saturday and saved many shipi. The captain of the Harpathian, which is a 4500 tonner, says a small U-boat discharged ' a torpedo. SINKINGS CUT DOWN BY.. HAL*. PARIS, June 7. The Marine Department announces: The tonnage destroyed by enemy action during five months of 1918 was half that for the corresponding months of 1917. England and America during May alone, constructed more shipping than the Germans destroyed during April and May. We destroyed double the number of submarines that the Germans constructed.
