THE LIBERTY ENGINE.

In our cables the other day it was stated that the first aeroplane equipped with the Liberty engine had arrived on the American front. The new standardised American aviation ‘ ‘ Liberty” engine is evidently a very fine proposition/ It is based on that marvellous production the Rolls-Royce aeroplane engine. The American engineers had the assistance of expert men from the Rolls-Royce works At first, they thought it impossible to turn out such fine and complicated work as that which is embodied in the Rolls-Royce, btu evidently they have succeeded in doing so. The new engine has been run for 50 consecutive hours with complete success. It weighs about SOO lbs.,- and develops more than 400 h.p., at 1,625 revolutions per minute The engines are twelve cylinder, and have two sparking plugs to each cylinder.
