KING’S THEATRE. 1 The star drama “Bought and Paid For,’ ’shown at the King’s last night, has for its motive a subject not ordinarily dealt with in pictures, and the method of treatment is somewhat different to the usual run of melodramas. It is very absorbing from beginning to end and gives Alice Brady full scope to show the wonderful histrionic powers she possesses. The 1000 ft cartoon is a very interesting film shwing Bruce Bairnsfathor drawing the sketches he has immortalised in “Fragments from France.” The programme will be repeated to-night, and is well worth seeing. THE FISK JUBILEE SINGERS. It is announced in our advertising columns that the Fisk Jubilee Singers will appear at the Town Hall, Taihape on Friday, May 31st. Since the last appearance in New Zealand of the Fisks the combination has been re-or-ganised by Professor C. A. White who with Miss Belle Gibbons, (the only lady baritone in the world) are members of the old original Company which first visited New Zealand some thirty odd years ago. The present Company numbers ten artists and their work in glees, jubilee part singing and solos, together with humorous quartets, coon ditties, and up to date ragtime, sketches, is said to be admirable. Of their part singing the Melbourne niusicial authority says;— ‘ 1 Their singing reminds one of a huge organ, in its dying and swelling tones, in fact the whole musicial ■ treat makes one admit that the Fisk Jubilee Singers stand alone, ” The Fisks have just concluded a highly successful season throughout Australia meeting with phenomenal success everywhere. 1 The box plan for the Fisk Jubilee Singers is now Qjpen at SwedLuad’si Piano Warehouse and patrons should got in early to secure a good seat.
