It is believed this action is consequent on the decline on railroad rates cabled on the 16th inst. UTILISING MAN-POWER. RAKING UP “WEARY WILLIES.” Received 10.35 a.m. ' WASHINGTON, May 23. The War Department officials have announced that after July Ist all loafers and men not engaged in useful occupations must engage in useful war work or be drafted into the army. The the Ist of July include gamblers, raceoccupations listed as not useful after trackers, waiters, bar-minders, club, notel, arid apartment house attendants, persons engaged in games or amusement, with some exceptions, domestic servants, sale clerks. A plan has been adjusted so that women may replace those men affected. This is the Government’s move. The drastic action, may yet, if strictly enforced, stop professional baseball.
